National Weatherization Day is celebrated in October each year to recognize the impact of the U.S. Department of Energy's Weatherization Assistance Program, which was established in 1976 to help low-income households save money on energy costs, and improve the health and safety of their homes.

About the event
National Weatherization Day is celebrated in October each year to recognize the impact of the U.S. Department of Energy's Weatherization Assistance Program, which was established in 1976 to help low-income households save money on energy costs, and improve the health and safety of their homes.
The Weatherization Assistance Program can assist with the following: - Insulation of attics, walls, and crawl spaces - Air sealing of drafts and warm air escaping through the attic - Repair or replacement of heating systems and duct work - Lighting replacement of energy-efficient LEDs - Replacement of refrigerators, freezers, or washers - Testing and/or replacement of water heaters - Health & safety inspections - Maintenance and conservation education
*Persons interested in the program must first apply for Wisconsin’s Home Energy Assistance Program.
